ABOUT WILLOW TREE ACADEMY

Willow Tree Academy of Fine Woodworking® is a school located in Livonia, Michigan dedicated to teaching the craft of fine woodworking to the student looking for professional advancement or life enrichment.

Our goal is to develop to the student through a series of classes with the ultimate goal of making quality crafted furniture. Upon completion of the courses, the student should look forward to abilities and confidence that will last the balance of their career.

We feel this goal is best accomplished through a series of lessons taken in a particular order with one building upon the previous. While these classes are being mastered by the student, a variety of furniture making projects are offered based upon the student's completion of prerequisite courses. This interwoven curriculum reinforces the student's confidence as well as builds a rock-solid foundation for future furniture making challenges. 

Willow Tree Academy of Fine Woodworking offers what we consider a flexible apprenticeship. We understand that everyone cannot carve two years out of his or her life to serve a formal apprenticeship. To meet this challenge, we schedule our task classes throughout the year. While we encourage the student to complete the required lessons as close together as possible, you can develop your skills at your own pace. We feel it better increases the student's chances for success to progressively learn a theory of woodworking rather than a variety of tasks being taught using a variety of theories and methods.

We understand that every student is different. Some want to make very complex and demanding pieces while others want to challenge themselves and enjoy the camaraderie of others like them. Here at Willow Tree Academy, we design each student's body of study to assure the reaching of their individual goals. The success of our program is best demonstrated by the success of our students. The more advanced having completed extremely demanding and complex projects such as a heavily carved Chippendale chair and a inlayed Hepplewhite table. The classes are intense but tempered with good humor and encouragement. The student is responsible for a good attitude and a will to succeed.
